I’ve gained a lot of experience (and scars) funding my business. While Tampa recently claimed to be the top city for female entrepreneurs, we still have a long way to go when it comes to leveling out gender bias. There is an enormous gender gap in venture capital funding in Florida and across the United States. Female entrepreneurs receive only about 2% of all venture funding, despite owning 38% of the businesses in the country. I would also say that this number is even lower when it comes to women startups in male dominant industries such as the one I am in – weather technology development. But there are ways for women to begin shifting that number.
